I was at the Boston World of Wheels show and Donald Trump’s car that has been on E-Bay recently was there. I was able to get some pictures of door latch, notice the plastic bottom cover on the door latch.

Close up of the OEM door latch. There is a small piece of sheet metal with small metal screws to hold it on.

These are photo's of different builder/kit latches that I took photos of when I was at the 2002 Knott's show

The door latch and stricker come from a Mercedes Benz 240 or 280 seriers, 1971 or 1972, chasssis type 114 or 116.

Part numbers for the latches A1267200135 and A1267200435.

The following photos are of my right door latch.

(when I finish)

This is the latch in a simi-finished phase, it still needs some work. This would be the completed stage.
This is the latch location on the body door panel, I lowered the lighting level down so that you could see the detail of the door.
This is the cut out on the door
The problem with these latches are that they did not fit the contour of the door. When the latch is mounted in the door you can see there is a gap between the latch and door. I had a great recommendation emailed to me from Jo "Connor" McKenna and Paul (who live in Canada).  Paul builds cars and he uses these latches in his builds, Paul recommended a great tip of welding on a small piece that matches the contour of the door, this worked great.

I ordered the Mercedes door latch and catch using the part numbers from your web site. I'm enclosing a picture of the driver door latch and catch. They are from a W126 body. The numbers are as follows.

Driver door latch = 126-720-01-35 $75.00
Driver door catch = 126-720-01-04 $61.00

I didn't get the passenger side, so I dont have the part number yet. I wanted to see what they looked like before I ordered the other set.

They are a little differen't from the ones Lamborghini uses. They mount from inside the door instead of the outside.

I'm debating weather to use these or track down the more authentic looking ones. I think I like these better.

B.T.W. Kamloop Select Auto was a little high on the price. They wanted 168.00 for just the latch. I purchased mine from the local dealer, arived with in 3 days.

There is a detailed "manual" that Dale has created for you to view (in regards to this section). This instruction manual is on how he built his IFG Phantom Roadster. (click on his logo to visit his web site)

This latch installed pretty well. The only difficulty is one of the mounting bolts is behind the counterweight, on a Mercedes would be screwed into sheet metal. Otherwise, the latch fit very nicely onto the body with no gaps and the drilling indentations were bang on.

The Diablo has power locks, you can see the solenoid and the cam to pull or push the lock lever. it really works well.

Here is the sum of weeks of work. This is the passenger side door latch internal workings. You can see why it was so nice to be able to work on the door with the skin off.

Starting at the top, this is the older VW trunk release. It is held in place by a aluminum bar bent to shape. The latch is the OEM Lambo style. Lower down in the center of the shot with 2 black wires is a micro switch. It is activated whenever the door latch is opened. This switch activates the power windows to bring them down slightly. Below that is a brass colored rod which activates the lock. That rod goes to that cam and then down another rod to a push pull actuator.

On the bottom right you can just see some bolts going through some angle iron. That is the cable release for the door latch. It just clears the door glass. This is why doors are so hard - that is just the latch never mind the pwr windows, inner latch, mirrors, window tracks, trim, speakers, and so on...

Heres some pics of my door assembly,  Man everyone was right when it was said the door are one of the hardest parts of the car to build. It took 140 hours for both doors from mounting the shell, hinge, latches, cables, solenoids, wiring, glass tracks, motor, bonding the skin. And I still need final sanding and remounting motor and glass.
