This is a photo of the rear window with no work done to it yet.

I talked to Jeanine Matz with American Glass Products (Phone: 865-675-0525) to get a part number and a price.

Diablo - Backlite Backglass part number: LDB - ($60.00 was the price was quoted to me on 9/02)

These are photos and comments from other builders about there installation methods.

Hew, that's done!! Those of you with IFG VT or SE kits will know that the rear window panel gets bonded to the body. It is not part of the body mold. In addition, the window panel does not extend to the sides of the engine compartment. You must fill in this area. Filling and sanding in 90+ degree heat is tiresome - especially when doing this work on the inside. The bottom lip you see is a strip of aluminum that extends the length of the compartment and has a 90-degree bend in front. This bend is slipped under the window panel lower edge and then filled. To ensure a good seal with the glass, I taped the glass and waxed it. Fiber Strand filler was squeezed in the edges to make a nice flat edge - one that the glass will fit nicely to.

This is a view of the window panel from the inside. You can see the rear window glass - provided with the IFG kit.

There is a detailed "manual" that Dale has created for you to view (in regards to this section). This instruction manual is on how he built his IFG Phantom Roadster. (click on his logo to visit his web site)

I finished off the rear window by glassing in the lip of the rear window to the top of the firewall. I then used bondo to fill in and shape the edge.

I traced the opening of the rear window on to the glass. I then masked off the inside of the glass and painted it black. I reinserted the window and then used black silicone sealant around the edge from the outside. I need to now scrape off the excess with a razor blade.
Installed the rear window. I started with a straight piece of window channel and welded tabs on the bottom. I seated the window in the channel in silicone sealant. I fabricated brackets using foam padding that will hold the top of the window against the top of the window opening. I will seal the edge from the outside with black silicone window sealant.
