Chassis Engineering
The most forms of racing, cornering
speed is the key to winning. On the street, precise and predictable handling
is the key to high performance driving. However, the art and science of
engineering a chassis can be difficult to comprehend, let alone apply.
But in HPBooks' Chassis Engineering, chassis expert Herb Adams clearly
explains the complex principles of suspension geometry and chassis design
in terms the novice can easily understand and apply to any project. Hundreds
of photos and illustrations offer the information on what it takes to
design, build and tune the ultimate chassis for maximum cornering power,
both on and off the track.
Sections include: Tire Characteristics,
Weight Distribution, Roll Angle & Roll Force, Bushings, Springs &
Shocks, Front Suspension Design & Building, Rear Suspension Design
& Building, Frame Design & Building, Aerodynamic Downforce, Vehicle
Testing & Tuning
Chassis Engineering gives you
the inside edge on how to apply the principles of suspension and chassis
design for any application. Go ahead - enhance the cornering performance
of your sports car. Set-up you Modified for circle tracks. Tune your vintage
or road-racer for more cornering speed. You can even learn to set-up a
Winston Cup car for the high banks of Daytona! Chassis Engineering is
a must-have reference for novices and professionals alike. Add it to your
high performance library today!

Race
Car Chassis: Design and Construction
This book is
a must read. It is more a "how come" than a "how to"
book. It does a great job of explaining the reasons for things. It also
has as many examples of bad designs as good ones. In one memorable section
he explains how all the tubes in a properly designed space frame could
be joined by ball joints and the frame would not bend or twist, because
all the tubes would be in either tension or compression. He has an interesting
chart showing the torsional stiffness of some past notable cars and some
contemporary. Although it is not strictly a how to book from a fabrication
point of view it is a how to from construction fundamentals point of view.
For this aspect alone it is priceless.

Engineer to Win: The Essential Guide to Racing Car Materials Technology
or how to Build Winners Which Don't Break
As you might
have guessed Smith has written more than one book. In fact, he has a series

racing cars and cars in general, or anything else for that matter. It
has examples fatigue analysis and their causes. It has a lot of great
information, but is rather in depth and is more a materials book than
a construction book.

Fiberglass
and Composite Materials: An Enthusiast's Guide to High Performance Non-Metallic
Materials for Automotive Racing and Marine Us
For many years, race cars of
all types have been constructed with lightweight materials in addition
to aluminum and steel. These include fiberglass, Kevlar and reinforced
plastics. The application of this space-age technology is also becoming
more widely used on street cars as stronger materials are developed, costs
become lower and techniques are simplified. The Corvette has always been
built of fiberglass, and cars such as the Chevy Lumina and 1994 and up,
Mustangs also use reinforced plastic materials in certain body panels.
But the most common automotive application is racing, and the equipment
and technology today now make it possible for many racers to repair, and
even construct, their own lightweight body panels using these materials.
Sections covered include:
FRP MATERIALS
FIBERS & FIBER FORMS
RESINS
GEL COATS
ADVANCED TECHNIQUES
BUILDING MOLDS & PLUGS
STRUCTURES AND MATERIALS
HEALTH & SAFETY TOOLS AND SHOP EQUIPMENT
This handbook is required reading for any racing or automotive enthusiast,
as well as automotive engineering and design students or professionals,
body shop technicians, and professionals in the marine industry.
