| D&R
Where does one start? I went to Carlisle with the intent to be as honest
and clear as possible in taking pictures of all the defects and short
comings of any manufacture there. All the pictures on Ron's site from
Knott's provided a rude awakening as to the poor quality from some of
the manufactures themselves. The kits are the raw material to build a
work of art from and if the raw material is off there isn't much hope
of making it better. A manufacture's excuse that they had to rush to get
a car ready for a show only to show up with a kluge only serves to defeat
their purpose and works against them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist
to figure that out. Scraped door jams, misaligned body panels, misaligned
glass moldings, wavy fiberglass, paint jobs with orange peel so course
you can see in the pictures and low quality louvers say more than words.
To the manufactures, if you want my money show me you care about what
you are doing. If you don't care about your work and take pride in it,
you are not going to care about me and my effort to build a beautiful
car.
With camera ready I started with the blue D&R in the upper building
in the back. So I started looking for the defects, misaligned panels and
ripples in the fiberglass. At the end of the second day I was still looking
but I couldn't find any. I have seen a lot of kits and real Diablo's and
have to say a well built D&R can hold its own against the real thing
any day of the week. They are so dam good a dealer would have a hard time
telling it was not from Italy. In fact the owner of this one told me he
did take it to a dealer and they didn't know until he told them.
You will see a shot looking down the side of the car from the front looking
at the rear radiator scoop. This view shows the door lines and the rear
fender line leading to the scoop. These are the most difficult lines on
the car to get correct and it can make or break the quality appearance
of the kit. The D&R pictures speak for themselves. I have these shots
of a real one also and I'll send them to Ron also for comparison.
