If not learn from my mistakes and by a cheap fiero and use these items, then part the car out. (How can they prove otherwise?) Otherwise the DMV will make you take it where the sun dont shine. |

Looking back I maybe should not have told people to put an incorrect VIN on their car but it would have made life way easier for me. My car has an IFG tube chassis, which had only a certificate of origin, no title or VIN. I went to the DMV with the certificate and the lady said I needed receipts and pictures. I had 2 main receipts, one for the body, chassis, interior, and wheels, and one for the tranny. I had the motor, it came out of an old Camaro I sold, so no receipt for that. I then had to fill out a statement of facts telling the story about how the car came to be. That's sales tax on the car and the tranny please (ouch). The packet went somewhere in the DMV for roughly a month. Finally get the paper work back and setup an inspection appointment, 3 weeks out... The inspection has nothing to due with safety and every thing to do with stolen parts. The guy can't find the engine numbers to verify, the chassis has no VIN, automatic fail (knew this). Tranny numbers match my receipt. Ok, paper work back to the DMV for another month. They assign a VIN back to vehicle inspection for the VIN to be applied. Got VIN. Next I went to the DMV, walked out with my plates. Now I get to bond the car for 3 times the value to get my title. Screw it I'll wait until next spring to pay the bond. I started the licensing process in April 02 and was legal Aug. 02. |
