Notes - 6 Month Snap Shot
Last Updated 7/29/05

I thought it would be a good idea to create a builders 6-month Time-Line.

To start off the new year of 2005 what is shown in this secion is one photo of many different builders car (it’s condition on 1/1/05). I have also asked everyone to write me and tell me what they “hope” to have accomplished by July 1st 2005. At the end of June we will start this again to view your 6 months of progress.

I hope that every 6 months we will have a snap shot of how much each builder has accomplished in six month intervals. It will also help to place a name with a car’s progress. -fletch

by 7/1/05 I hope to have all the suspension parts mounted, so that I have a rolling chassis.

I would also like to have the transmission mounted, and have the engine ordered.

12/23/04 - building the NAERC chassis, I still have a lot of work to do on this
6/21/04 - building the rear frame part

Greg Reynolds

I've been collecting parts like crazy. I got 3 pairs of corvette calipers I'm getting powder coated next week. The the Brembo logo included. I'm hoping by the end of February it will be on wheels.

Then after that engine and trans wiring A/C and all the custom brackets to fit everything. I'll be saving money to get the whole kit at one time to save on shipping in August.

I have a good feeling that we will be done our current build before the end of May ( Carlisle). This is a somewhat current picture. It still looks pretty much the same. We will be disassembling everything in about 3 weeks. Our body kit should be here by Jan 10,05....I hope. I want to make all the mounting brackets first before painting the chassis. Stay tuned at www.kwikercars.com

This is a picture of the engine bay in our build I am hoping that in 6 months the engine will be taching up to 7000RPM on a hiway near the beach!!

Car is finished and has over 500 kilometers on it. IT IS AWESOME. Handles like a dream, pulls like mad and stops like hitting a brick wall. Plus....chicks dig it!!

Gary Kerr 1/6/05

Just a picture to let you guys know I'm getting a little farther on my car.... haven't worked on it much since my accident.....but....The days my head feels better I try to spend a little time on my car...love to all, hope everyone had great holidays!

I was stuck in a couple of places trying to trial fit my body on the car. I figured that if it started to look more like a car it would give me that kick in the rear everyone needs!!

Here are some photos of 1/4/05

I removed the body about a month ago to finish welding the frame, which I had pretty well set up.

After the body was off I got tired of welding and waiting ( I have a 120V welder with a 20% duty cycle, which means you can only do so much before it blows a fuse) so I started working on other stuff.

I put in the dash pieces and the wiring harness and started tracing what went where and then created a schematic of what I needed and realized I could create the majority of the final harness at this point, which beats the hell out of laying on your back either under the car or under the dash at a later date

7/12/05 - I know I know the exact shot I want to use but I need a weed or two

here are the pic of my car as it set today after almost two year, maybe this was the kick start I was looking for!

for the 6 month progress I believe will have a rolling chassis with the buddy, doors and windows mount and workable.

I think the snapshot is an excellent idea. I'm glad you didn't institute it last year though! Almost nothing has happened to my chassis between July and December, 2004. Instead, I remodeled and painted our house, bought a triplex, and started a consulting company. Beginning in January, I finally started focusing all that time back on the Diablo now that things have calmed down a little.

My goal by July, 2005, is to have the chassis rolling and the engine mated to a tranny. I probably wont' have the drivetrain installed yet, but should be close.

John Wunderlin

At present time I am doing body work and fitting interior panels. Everything else is done including all the wiring. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. If all goes well the next 6 month snap shot will be of this car completed.

7/12/05 My car is currently at the body shop, finish body work and paint, then it is off to the interior shop. Hope to have the car back and complete in 3 possibly 4 months.

I think this idea is awesome. Since I am relatively new, this will help me see how others are planning the stages of their replic.
My plans are within the next six months to have a 3800 SC installed on a 5 spd tranny, wiring may not be done by then though. I will also be working on beefing up some weak areas in my chassis. I will be building the front chassis and rear bumper mounts. I want to have all the major chassis welding done, I'm sure I will be modifying things as I go!

1/5/05 - Here a pic of the car as of 1/05, As you can se i started over. I sold the Corey Davis kit that I had and now I have a copy of the D&R roadster.

By July 1, 2005 I plan to have the car in primer ready for paint and interior. As you know I sold the old body and got this new one it's much better. It's a splash of the D&R roadster. Everything fits well and this car was made to be builder friendly from the beginning. I in the process of hooking up the exhaust then I plan to send the car out to get wired and after that it should be all down hill.
7/3/05 - I have the body permanently glued down, All things listed below are done Doors all lights, turn signals roof rear trunk built pieces need to be bonded toghter engine change from 305 tune port to 3800 v6 Interior rocker panels done Seats are done I'm sure there is something I'm missing, It's always the small stuff we forget about.

My car is currently in the paint shop. It's taking a bit of time since these guys are really putting in a lot of elbow grease into this car - wet sanding the paint and polishing it up. The car is so big that they must paint the body in sections. I'll attach some pictures as to where they are as of last Wednesday (1/26). After paint, the car must still go to the upholstery shop, and I don't know their availability yet.

I'll be at Knotts regardless if the car is ready or not. But I hope the car will be completely finished by then. I'm quite sure the car will be finished for the Carlisle show.

The car will be finished this spring.

7/12/05 -The car should be finished by the end of August, but probably not registered until sometime in September. The car will be going into the upholstery shop July 30. It will be in the shop for about 3 weeks. Then the windshield amd quarter windows will be installed. At that point, the car would be essentially done.

Ken Schroeder - 7/1/05

This is where I was in January 2005

7/12/05 - Over the last six months I've installed my Held wide-track sport suspension package and their 13" disk brakes.  Since my kit arrived from NAERC (eg: Canada, #679 ) in April, I've been finishing the chassis upgrades and working on mounting the body.  In the next six months I hope to have the exterior fiberglass, including doors and rockers, mounted.

Here's a snap of my current build. Hopefully only a year from completion. Its been 2 1/2 years and 1,500 hours of hard work:
  • wiring in, except for some plug ends
  • Gauges ready
  • Dash and console fitted (need switches)
  • Running gear complete, just need a good road test
  • Bumpers on and framed up
  • Doors on and working (yea)
  • Hood latch on, (needs cable ran)
  • Headlights in and working

Still left to do is:

  • Interior wiring
  • Interior close out panels
  • Seats, leather finished
  • Fuel filler  (top mount)
  • Fender wells and close outs
  • AC condenser mount and fill
  • Door latch reinforcement
  • Box in front and rear trunk areas
  • Reinstall all glass
  • Deck lid latches
  • Install side mirrors, motors and wire
  • And much more, and it will always take 3 times as long to do than I plan!
Its been a long process, I can believe that it has taken so much time. Many times I become frustrated and doubted why I started, I could have paid cash for a Z or a Vette!  But I have focused and stuck with it. I am just a pumped as the first day I laved eyes on the kit in my driveway. Last weekend I drove it around the block as my neighbors looked on in amazement to how awesome this garage born car has become! Looking so forward to hittin the car scene, there's hardly nothing else in my area that even compares to this car, and I am building it myself!

The body is sitting on a Chassisworks chassis and the chassis is sitting on blocks. The 40th Anniversary Murci wheels are just propped up in position for the effect. I just picked up a 327 Motor for the other day.
