Chassis - Front End - Body Nose Support

Endre (Andy) Bujtas

I added a piece of angle iron to the front nose structure so that it fits snug to the front nose of the body. Not seen here are the 3 nuts that were welded to the angle piece for the front nose hold-down bolts. The bolts are flat-head sockets, so I had to countersink the holes that the bolts fit flush to the body surface. Also seen in this picture is my NASCAR front sway bar. It is a nice piece of machine work. It is a hollow 1 1/4" bar 37 1/2" long with 1 1/2" ends that are machined with splines for the lever arms.

I wanted a better fit between the front nose and the chassis. The way the car was received was that a 1" x 1" spacer bar was used to link the body with the chassis mounting point. This was OK, but I wanted a tighter fit so that I wouldn't need to use very long screws to hold the front nose down on the frame. So I came up with a way to modify the mount using a piece of 2" x 2" angle iron. But this required that I cut a length of the bonding point between the upper body and the lower valence. But since they are glued together, cutting this strip was not a problem.

The fornt end is now ready for paint. questionable areas were sanded and primed and the entire front structure was primed. Then the front tube chassis members were primed and repainted Blue. Also shown is a piece of 1" x 1" tubing that was welded to the front. This will act as a mounting point for the front trunk floor in that area.
