Chassis - Transmission - Audi Shifter

Ron Boudreau

These are some of the photos that I took at the 02' Carlisle Car show of a GT-40 shifter, but I made it more adjustable and not dependent on a fabrication off the trans mount.

This is a modified version of my Audi shifter using the disign of the GT-40 replica.

I have made it more adjustable and I couldn't resist making it out of 304 stainless steel because it looks good after polishing and also the wear points won't rust.

It consist of a transverse actuator, a gear selector and a pivot post with mounting plate.
Two holes must be drilled into the top transmission web to mount the plate with the pivot post.

The gear selector fits over the Audi selector shaft.

It provides a threaded gear selector arm and a recess for the transverse actuator pivot to fit into. It has a set screw which will fit into a detent in the Audi shifter shaft, which I will drill.

The transverse actuator has a threaded arm to mount a spherical rod end on which would connect to one of the shift cables. Another short rod at 90º, also threaded has a turned piece that fits into the recess on the gear selector.

This piece is made of acetel  (Delrin) and provides a slippery ware surface that won't need lubrication. I also bushed the bore of the vertical tube with Delrin to make it work smoothly.

I made up a bottom and top washer also out of Delrin to eliminate as much friction as possible. It works great but of course I won't get to the other end of the for quite a while.

Side note from Fletch:

Ron Boudreau was nice enough to not only draw up these drawings for you to view, but he has also put these drawings together in this zip file for you to download.
