| I
traveled down to Oxnard to check the status of my chassis at JLS Motorsports.
Lance has been extremely busy in the Winston NASCAR Rracing Series Champoioship
circuit with his #48 "Toys R Us" car now in forth place in points.

 |
| Structural
basics, good handling requires adequate chassis stiffness, this means the
frame structure must be rigid enough to resist bending and twisting. In
order for the roll bar and side bar tubes to be effective they have to be
mounted on to rigid members, the front and rear bulkheads offer this solid
type of foundation. |

The
NASCAR 22-gallon fuel cell is now fully mounted

|
You
can see the bracing and triangulated tubing method of this chassis design.

|
| This
type of front and rear bulkhead design offers improved lateral strength
to the chassis while providing an excellent base onto which the roll bar
tubes can be mounted... a roll bar and side bars are only as strong as the
members they are mounted on, so building strong bulkheads are recommended.
Rigid bulkheads also add to the frame stiffness, so there is a double benefit
from their use. |
 |
 |
| Lance
has built in an anti-squat into the rear MacPherson strut suspension. I
ordered these MacPherson struts from RCC, they are for a Fiero with the
11" brake kit. |
 |
 |
| My
primary reason for having a tubular frame is the safety aspect. Crash protection
for the driver and passenger is one of the frame and roll bars primary purposes.
By making the total structure stiffer, it becomes stronger in a crash (should
that ever happen). |
 |
 |
| This
is not my engine, it is just in place for Lance's team to build up my exhaust
system, Lance wants to put in a 383. |
 |
 |
| RCC suspension |
The
sheet metal is now being shaped and cut for the bottom |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| The
seat tracks are being installed, but I will not be using the fiber glass
seat, I am going to install Recaro seats. |
 |
 |
| That
is my body on the left and directly behind my chassis in the background
is another CRP 6.0, this car belongs to one of Lances's employees (NASCAR
Toys R Us driver) Tommy, who is building this car to break the Kit Car land
speed record. |
 |
 |
| That
is my Fiero steering column that Lance has mounted in place... one of the
few Fiero parts that my car will end up having. |
This
is a quick shot of my son (copilot for this trip) and you can see the size
of my rims... and in the background is actor Charlie
Sheen's cobra that Lance is building for him. |
