This is the front end - lower section (Assembly 9110)

5/31/06 This Memorial Day weekend was the start of my new NAERC chassis build. I tack welded the four outside pieces and then prepared for the center parts.

Everything is tack welded together, I am going to send this out to have an experienced welder complete this.
To insure that all the piece fit together correctly I created the parts from NAERC's 2D drawing package into a 3D full assembly (pro/engineer) model. If you move your mouse over the picture you will see the full frame of the chassis, and you will have a better understanding of where this part goes.
I went ahead and had this section welded by a seasoned professional

June 13, 2004 This is the front end - upper section (Assembly 9120).

What you are seeing is only a few hours of cutting the tubes and tack welding.

I was interrupted by cutting the top of my thumb on a large burr (5 stitches), and my daughter had a baby boy (Clayton) so I have to say that this weekend I spent more time in the hospital then working on the frame.

The front bumper section is hard to find the center line so I use a laser line across these center lines to help guide me in keeping this assembly straight.
These is the finished "fully welded" assembly, grinded down the welds on the top and bottom.

7-24-04 Here are all the parts that I have cut for the front end, this is for assembly #9100. This will combine assembly 9110 & 9120 together

7-27-04 Here ia a photo of the front end assembly, everything tack welded ready for the welder to finish up. I still need to add a few more piece onto this on the bottom rear section.

At this stage I am grateful to have such friends as Robert Proulx watching after me.  Robert wrote me a few hours after I posted this photo to tell me that he noticed that one of the pieces was not attached correctly.

Part number 1475 should have been placed towards the inside, I have it on the outside

It needs to be placed here... so I picked up the assembly (at the welders) before they started to weld this front end section. My finger is pointing to where it should be. thanks again Robert!

Here is another side note - transporting this front assembly does fit inside of my Toyota Sequoia SUV, as I cart this back and forth (home to the welder).

7-31-04 I finished fixing the front end and tack welding on the lower section parts.

This is a good shot of the lower section, the drawings don't show this very well. I talked to Ryan at EDB, who was kind enough to help me out with what to do.

I had the hinge mounting bar welded in.

I thought I would place the body on top of the front end section to see how well the NAERC chassis fits onto a CRP body.  It looks good!

8/7/04 - I went ahead and finished the front end assembly 9140

Here are the underneath shock parts #1635 & 1645 from assembly 9130

I decided to weld these brackets from assembly 9130 last. This is another change from the assembly drawings. I wanted all the cross members to attach to the hinge beam - not to this bracket plate.

Now that the support piece are tacked into the hinge beam, I can now tack this bracket in.  First I will need to knotch out the material on part 1635 so that the cross members 1460 will not be in the way.
