These are my
CRP rims - three piece 17" Roadster |
| I
picked up my rims from CRP before they closed and locked the doors. This
is my rear and front.

|
Here
is a collection of all the three pieces that will build a rear wheel rim.
You can see in the lower left the Inner piece, there is a stack of the Center
cast pieces, and to the right lower is the chrome Outer piece. The top right
is a full front rim |
|
This is a photo of the centers
as they have come out of the mold.
The center
pieces have to be taken to a machine shop to have the lug holes drilled.
They will also need the outside mounting holes drilled and the rear of
the center shaved off to the correct offset for my chassis. Then they
will need to be cleaned up and powder coated. |
|
 |
Ken Esler pointed out these
holes that did not get machined.

|
Moving forward I drilled
them out.

|

|
After they were machined
my centers they still had a rough surface finsh to them. This is a close
up to show the texture of the casting. I will need to do some sanding
to make this surface smooth.

|
The edges of
the center pieces are rough and need to be filed down around the inside
edges. Then lots of sanding.

|
After talking with many different
custom rim/wheel shops, they all recommended a file and some sanding to
fix the surfaces. In this photo you can see that I filed down the inside
edge and sanded the surface.

|
The rims are ready to be powder
coated.

|
After looking at the Cardinal
Industrial Finishes color chart I went with T353-GR06 Silver 30% Gloss.
This is a photo of the finished center part.

|
This is a photo in a different
lighting so see the color, it is a gray (silver) color.

|
Ken Esler recommend that
I use 12 point or Ferry head bolts. Try a company called Duniway at 1-800-446-8811
I am going to order for each
rim:
- 25) 1/4" x 1 1/2"
stainless steel grade 5
- 15) 1/4" x 1"
stainless steel
- 50) M6 Stainless steel washer
- 50) 1/4" Stainless
steel washer
- 50) Nut - stainless steel
lock nut

This is a photo of the wheel
mouted to the right rear.

|
The problem can now been
seen that my front suspension is not centered.

|
| I need to get a center cap
piece

|
This is the plastic caps
that I recieved from Steve Curtis

|
This is the centers that
I had fabricated by my friend Allan, he used a .156" thick aluminum
plate and punched out a 2.500" slug. They fit in pretty snug, this
photo show the slug is recessed approx .090"
