Front - Bumper - Skid Plate

A real Lamborghini

Ron Boudreau

This is a picture of a real Diablo and its owners solution to speed bumps.

Believe it or not it really is a skate board wheel set.

These are photos and comments from other builders about there installation methods.

Following Dale's advice, I fabricated a skid plate for the front air dam. It is made of 4 pieces welded together. The front piece is made of 2 3 inch sections of flat stock butt-welded together, and 2 - 2 inch side sections. I made a template that follows the curvature of the front lip. I drew the curvature on a 10 x 72 inch piece of particle board.

The set the shape, I nailed some pieces of wood to the particle board. They are installed at the tangent points on the line I drew. Then, the 3 inch front section (prior to welding the side pieces) has cuts made with a chop saw down to about 1/4 inch. This allows the piece to bend easily to conform to the template. Then the ends are tack-welded to afix the shape. The cuts are made every 1 inch around the center of the nose and 2 inches apart going out to the sides. I will be mounting it this weekend. It took a Saturday afternoon to get this far, but this is the toughest part.
