The first picture is the VW hinge that NAERC uses.

It is nicer than the BMW hinge. it is in the trunk of the 2000-02 Jetta - probably in several other products too.

Ron Boudreau - This is a photo that I took of the D&R hinge.

I have not installed any hinges yet, but I have heard people talk about BMW hinges so looked at my wifes car and took some photos of her 328i engine hinge... looks like it would work.

I ground away the fiberglass from the front steel bar and hooked-up the hinges. They aren't welded or bolted on yet as I am still fidgeting with where to secure them.

The IFG front trunk decklid hinge is made up of 2 J-bars that get bolted to the lid. I wanted to have the decklid supported using gas springs (shocks). I wanted the shocks to apply their force to the hinge, instead of the fiberglass lid. But I had to find a shock small enough (and strong enough) to support the lid. I also had to reinforce the hinge so that the force would be applied evenly to the lid. I welded some 3/16 flat stock to make a single hinge unit. The shocks would then be attached to this hinge frame and to the body. The IFG body uses a square steel tube across the windshield area to stiffen that area. This is where my gas spring ball stud bracket will be welded to. As with the rear decklid, this setup is designed such that when the decklid is closed, the springs exert a constant force to keep the lid closed, while keeping the decklid raised when fully open. The sizing of the springs was based upon the force at the position of the hinge frame due to the weight of the decklid. For me it came to 30 lbs. So I decided to order 2 - 20 lbs springs. These springs are only 5.5 inches fully extended and are very compact

This is the hood hinge and shocks. I have a reasonably OEM look. After many tries and several days I got it working quite well.

Here is the hood hinge that CRP uses

Here is a picture of the hinges I bought from I.F.G.

The front trunk worked out ok. I used the BMW Z-3 trunk hinges. I still need to work on the Fiero wiper motor and release cabling.
