A real Lamborghini Here are a few photos of a real Lamborghini

Craig Nadeau sent me this photo of a close up of a carbon fiber dash

This is a photo of my 2001 dash as I received it from CRP

These are the two dash pieces put together

This is the dash on the body of the car

You can see the two piece of the dash, the top and and dash it self

This is the before I started to cut up the center console (I had to patch up all the air pockets).

I cut out the center section to gain more room for the console components.

I wanted to make a template for the gauges, to traced the out-lining of the control console onto a piece of 1/8" masonite.

Once the piece of masonite is cut to match the outline of the dash then I start making the circle cuts.

The next step is to cover the the masonite with piece of black laminate formica, I used some contact cement to glue it down.

Here is the finished dash panel.

Here is the gauges mounted into the dash panel. The chrome bezel looks great with the black.

These are photos and comments from other builders about there installation methods.

I will make this package available to anyone who would like to recess their gauges. I am presently set up to make the kit for the D&R instrument panel but will custom make them for other makes if desired. I would need a template of the instrument face plate panel with gauge layout to produce the kit for the other makes.

My professional experience has been designing machinery and as a technical illustrator. I am applying my experience to my Diablo and would like to make some of my designs available to other Diablo builders.

I have the ability to provide those gauge kits, if anyone would like them. I have contacted J. C. Hamlin about the panels and discussed his gauges. The combination of the two would be awesome. The only problem we discovered is that the gauges he has do not come in the smaller size that the D&R panel needs. His IFG kit has more available space in the panel to accept the larger 100mm speedometer and tachometer. He said when he gets his car back, he will make a template of the panel for me and I will develop a kit for the IFG kits.

I just noticed something interesting about your dash! You don't have a cut out where the steering wheel goes? Compare that to mine, This is why I am having such a hard time getting the dash to fit!!! Yours is also quite flat under where the cluster goes and under the airbag it is also much flatter.

North American Exotic Replica Cars provides a really nice carbon fiber dash insert with their kits. It looks pretty OEM.

The upper part is the idiot lights The images are all in the right places, he then has colored plastic behind so that the image will appear in the correct color.

I put in the Carbon fiber part just to look at as well as the indicator strip. The interesting part is how deep the "knee bolster" part goes.

Most other kits use an almost straight down part whereas the NAERC goes back sharply.

This is nice for an OEM look but is really difficult for installing the steering column.

I use a lot of ABS plastic for my dash areas. I made the center console out of plastic 1/4 inch plastic and heated and bent the contours I wanted. Then made the sides and glued them together. I also sand the abs then I use this stuff called Folia Tec. Its a kind of contact paper and it looks like carbon fiber. You can use a heat gun to help contour the edges and it works great and looks like real carbon fiber.

There is a detailed "manual" that Dale has created for you to view (in regards to this section). This instruction manual is on how he built his IFG Phantom Roadster. (click on his logo to visit his web site)

The one thing I would recommend is make sure you have a template to use for the final location. I ruined my first carbon fiber piece because the hole saw jumped and marred the surface. That was what prompted me to use the plexiglass template which worked well. I have not bought a wiring kit, it has basically been roll of wire, shrink wrap, soldering gun and wire strippers. I thought about the dash layout from Ken and was tempted but I had already bought the materials to make my own.

This was a guide and I may have made adjustments as I went along. Everything was measured from the Center line of the steering column.

Heres my dash with the carbon fiber overlay. Easy to make. I layed it up on a piece of mirror. Came out about 1/16 thick. Looks distorted in the pic but look cool. I going to mount the old Fiero AC controller in between the airvents on the right
