Rear - Engine Cover - Old deck lid part

Fletch

My CRP Engine Cover is a Jota style lid. The deck lid came with no bottom piece (or inside panel) to help move the air.

I developed my own air duct system - click here

The bottom of the cover came with this additional bottom part that fits on the bottom side. I fiber glassed in a 1/2" steel sq. tube to give the cover some support.

This bottom section would not fit on the bottom side (as one piece), I cut the bottom piece into three pieces (top and two sides) I only glassed in the top section of this bottom part.

I started adding on many layers of glass to build up a smooth surface. Here is a few more layers and I sanded it with a belt sander to give me a flat surface.

You can see that the layers of glas are now making the bottom of this engine cover smooth.

I then started adding many coats of glass to all the bottom, to give it a nice smooth surface.

Time to add the sides of the bottom back on. I am adding in a 1" sqare tubing for support and to give me something to mount my air shocks to. This is the right side of the bottom, it is very warped so fiber glassing the sqare tubing in will help to straighten this part out

I had to knotch out one section of the tubing. I had to knotch out one section of the tubing.

With this side piece I fiber glassed the square tubing into the side section by clamping it down to a 2x4. My reason behind clamping this to a 2x4 was to get this side piece to come out straight.

Then I bonded the end section to the bottom of the engine cover.

The completed phase, cleaned up and sanded.
