This will show you the CRP grills that I got

Here is the before photo. I will need to cut out the body panel of fiberglass

The gill in this photo is being held up, I have not yet mounted the grills

Cutting this out of the body was no problem, I used a smaller size Saws-all, then I sanded down the edge

Adding in the radiator grill from CRP is another story... the bottom of the grill has a slot style insert (peg) which I marked with a pencil and cut out - this is the bottom right side... the bottom left side is a different style of slotted mount

What CRP should have done was to make both of the bottom mounting grill parts the same - with the square peg (and of course having the grill the correct size wouldn't have hurt). What I am going to do now is search what other builders have done and I am sure that I will in the end up having to add more fiberglass to the lower section to extend out the wall to make this grill work.

There is a detailed "manual" that Dale has created for you to view (in regards to this section). This instruction manual is on how he built his IFG Phantom Roadster. (click on his logo to visit his web site)

This is the D&R radiator grill.

This is the upper attachment bracket I made to mount it.

It’s made from .06 steel and has two PEM threaded inserts. I mount it to the body using two WEL-NUTS. These are clamping rubber nuts that insert into a hole. When you attach a bracket or anything else the screw pulls the nut in the rubber WEL-NUT and it mushroom like a pop rivet. The nice part they can go into metal, fiber glass or anything else and doesn’t impart much stress on the structure you are mounting it to.
This is the bottom bracket. Its design allows for fore-aft adjustment of the grill by using washers as shims if needed.

It will attach the lower bracket to the car by a “L” bracket that I have yet to fabricate, but will sit under the bottom rim.
This is it in place.
This is a picture of a real Lambo and you can see the grill opening is skewed. Lamborghini didn’t think it mattered that much if it looked cockeyed, but I don’t like the way it looks. Rick at D&R straightened out the opening in the body somewhat on the roadster. It still would have been cocked a little but I contoured each fin to have the same depth on each side. It took quite a while since the grill was together, but in the end I am pleased with the results.
I set the grill in 3/8” from the body surface on both sides.

Andy Bujtas - How To Make A Grill

I wanted to make a grill for the engine decklid since there was too much open space. I layed-out my design on plywood and screwed-in the side wood pieces to form the general grill shape. The grill is made up of 4 3/4 inch square tubes in which the tops were cut off. Each "U" is 12 inches long with 11 grill slat grooves cut at 45 degrees with a Dremel cut-off wheel. The slats are made of 22 ga. steel strips cut to 1 inch and bent in half at 45 degrees. This type of grill design is very similar to the rear radiator grills furnished by IFG. The center will have a 16 inch shroud extended past the grill frame 4 inches in order to cover the distributor - to keep the rain off. This is not very difficult to make, but it did take me about 4 days to make it.

Radiator Vents

I built these, it was relatively easy, same number of parts as the original. They look great and reasonably OEM.

The right side grill opening needs to be worked on for straightness as well. I made all the grills. I had experience from precious Countach and Testerossa years ago.
