Rear - Trunk - Gas Shocks
This is a IFG kit car that was for sale on e-bay

Endre (Andy) Bujtas

I fitted the rear decklid using the new hinges (see previous build pictures) and shocks that I got from IFG. You can also see the plate I bonded into the decklid for the hinge. The short hinge-end is a 3/16 plate with stainless steel studs. The longer (rear-facing) plate is 1/8 to support the wing. The wing holes have been drilled, but I will countersink them so that I can use SS flat-head Phillips screws to attach the wing. This way there will be no interference of the wing attachment bolts with the decklid weather-stripping. You can see that the shocks are attached to the body on the trunk structure. The other end of the shock is attached to the hinge flange. This way, I can remove the decklid without removing the shocks or the hinges. The shock bracket is placed such that when I open the decklid the full force of the shock comes into play later in the opening of the lid. When closed, it will snap the hinge with a down force when the decklid is about 90% closed. When the latch is opened, the trunk will not snap open, but requires a little lift to push the decklid upwards.
